Preliminary construction has commenced on the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway in preparation for major construction to begin in mid-2017.
As part of these works, the Department of Transport and Main Roads wishes to advise you of upcoming activities that are planned to be undertaken during day and night works from December 2016 through until late January 2017.
Generally, day works are completed Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm. For safety and traffic management reasons, night works will be undertaken Sunday to Thursday from 7pm to 5am.
Please note this schedule is subject to change due to weather and other site conditions. A Christmas shut down period will also apply.
Works commencing Monday 5 December 2016
Geotechnical and pavement investigations
Geotechnical investigations and pavement testing will be undertaken in multiple locations throughout the project footprint.
Investigations using both bore holes and test pits within the road alignment will inform further detailed planning for construction.
Vegetation trimming and removal
To provide access for geotechnical testing and equipment, some vegetation trimming and removal will be required at the Caloundra Road interchange, Sunshine Motorway interchange and along the Bruce Highway. This includes areas adjacent to the Beerwah State Forest which are now formally part of the project footprint.
Prior to works commencing, a qualified fauna spotter/catcher will survey the area and remain on-site while works are being completed. A cultural heritage monitor will also be on-site, where required, during the works.
A copy of the construction notice for these works has been attached for your reference.
Other activities planned for December include:
- Installation of new roadside signage on the Bruce Highway northbound near the Aussie World precinct. Flashing signs are being installed to provide advance warning of queued traffic ahead.
- Stockpile establishment and carting of materials near the Caloundra Road and Sunshine Motorway interchanges to provide materials for site establishment.
- Site preparation works for the main site compound in the south-east corner of the Caloundra Road interchange. This includes vegetation trimming clearing and removal, and minor earthworks.
- Building demolition works will commence to allow for construction to begin. A licensed asbestos removalist has been engaged to remove contaminated materials.
We will continue to keep you up-to-date on key activities as the design and construction program progress.
If you have any questions about these activities, please contact the project team on 1800 749 022 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
