Today marks a milestone for the Exit 190 group who have been battling to save Exit 190 on the Bruce Highway. Concerned residents of Palmview & Glenview, as well as business owners at the Aussie World Precinct have rejoiced in the news that the southbound off ramp on the Bruce Highway has been saved.
The Government has today announced revised plans for the billion-dollar redevelopment of the Bruce Highway between Caloundra Road and the Sunshine Motorway. After meeting with Roads and Transport Minister Mark Bailey, spokesman for the Save Exit 190 campaign, Steve Amos said, “it’s a great result for us, as we were hoping to save at least one exit, and the southbound exit ramp was the most important.”
“Even though we did not see any other exits saved, the Government has at least listened to the people and amended their plans to keep our exit open,” said Mr Amos.
The Save Exit 190 Group would like to thank the Government and member for Caloundra Mark McArdle MP and in addition Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie for their invaluable assistance to achieve a good result for the community. In particular, our group would also like to thank Steve Amos and Mike Doroshenko for their efforts over several years, in helping us achieve a positive result.
“Without people power our exit would have been lost forever, so we would also like to thank everyone in the community and the thousands of people on our Facebook page for their support,” said Mr Amos.
The amended plan will see the current Exit 190 moved further south approximately 500 metres and loop onto the new Western Service Road. Once constructed this new road will allow traffic from both sides of the Bruce Highway to access the Aussie World precinct. This would also include access into Palmview when construction of the Greenfield project begins.
The TMR website states: “Provision of a revised southbound exit from the Bruce Highway to Pignata Road. The new exit ramp will meet current design standards and provide a safe and direct access to local businesses and residences, as well as a future connection to development in Palmview.”
“This decision will allow residents of Palmview & Glenview, as well as business owners at the Aussie World Precinct to sleep a little easier tonight, knowing that their future is secured,” said Mr Amos.
