Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle is making urgent contact with the Department of Transport and Main Roads regarding the announcement of the shortlisted tenderers for the Caloundra Rd to Sunshine Motorway upgrade project.
Fulton Hogan/Seymour Whyte Joint Venture and The Infrastructure Group are now working to submit their proposals for the final design and construction of the project before the tender is awarded next year.
Both the department and the tenderers will be invited to a public forum hosted by Mr McArdle at a date to be announced, to address and listen to key stakeholders including local businesses and environmental groups regarding key issues surrounding the upgrade.
“This is our chance to lay all the issues on the table to ensure both tenderers are well aware of the situation at hand,” Mr McArdle said.
“Under the proposal many businesses are concerned about direct access to the Aussie World precinct being cut off, while several environmental groups are very worried about the loss and impact to a portion of the Beerwah State Forest.
“It is important that we hear from these two competing tenderers about their plans for the upgrade so the Caloundra community knows where they stand.
“It is essential that we all work collaboratively to ensure the community’s concerns and needs are listened to.”
The tenderers have until late March to present their offer, with an award of contract expected mid-2016. Construction is expected to commence late 2016.
Details of the public forum will be announced as soon as Main Roads and the tenderers confirm their availability.
