Construction Update

Roadside Barrier Installation Update

Temporary ramp closures for minor road shoulder widening and the installation of roadside barriers will continue until December 2017. This includes temporary ramp closures at the Caloundra Road, Sunshine Motorway and Sippy Downs interchanges, and the Bruce Highway southbound exit ramp to Pignata Road.

The temporary ramp closures will be in effect during night works with signed detours in place. Night working hours are from Sunday to Thursday, 7pm to 5am. It is important to note that these activities are dependent on weather conditions.

Preparation for bridge works at Pignata Road

As part of the upgrade, two new bridges will be built over Pignata Road to form a new underpass to allow for a third northbound and southbound traffic lane on the Bruce Highway.

It will also allow for widening of the Pignata Road underpass from two to five lanes, with two westbound and three eastbound lanes. A new pathway will also be constructed, linking the new car pool facility on Pignata Road to Frizzo Road.

Initial bridge construction activities will commence from early October 2017 with the installation of roadside barriers and line marking.

Due to the width of the existing underpass, the location of the new bridges and the required working room for construction, pedestrian access must be restricted to ensure a safe environment for workers, motorists and pedestrians while these works are completed.

Pedestrian access between Pignata Road and Frizzo Road will be restricted for a period of up to 12 weeks, refer to the attached construction notice (CN14) for more information.

If you believe the restricted pedestrian access between Pignata Road and Frizzo Road will affect your personal circumstances, please contact the project team to discuss.

Car pool facility construction update

Construction of the car pool facility between the Bruce Highway and Pignata Road is progressing well, with the new facility planned to be open to the public later this year. We will continue to keep you updated on the expected opening date.

When complete, the car pool facility will cater for up to 240 vehicles.
