A new 240 space car pool facility at Palmview is now open to Sunshine Coast commuters. It is located between the Bruce Highway and Pignata Road in Palmview, and has opened to the public.
Construction of the new car pool facility began in May 2017 as part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway.
The car pool facility provides important community infrastructure for the Sunshine Coast region with commuters now able to park their vehicles and travel with their colleagues, family and friends to destinations both north and south of the coast.
The new car pool facility can be accessed via Pignata Road and caters for 240 vehicles in a safe, well-lit location.
Commuters who have been parking on local roads in Palmview and Glenview are encouraged to use the new facility. This is a safer parking solution while major construction occurs in the area. Ultimately, the car pool facility will connect to local businesses and bus facilities via a new shared cyclist and pedestrian path.
Pedestrian access between Pignata Road and Frizzo Road remains restricted while initial bridge construction activities are undertaken. Temporary pedestrian access facilities will be provided after initial bridge works are completed in early 2018, weather permitting. During the construction period, temporary changes for pedestrian access will continue to occur as works progress.
It is important to note that the car pool facility will need to be temporarily closed towards the end of the construction period in 2020. This will allow the construction team to undertake finishing works such as landscaping, asphalting and completing the new shared path and bus facilities. These timeframes may change due to wet weather or site conditions.
